Remember those bison at Daniels Park?
The ones everyone slows down to look at just 15 minutes south of Highlands Ranch?
Well, they’re moving 15 minutes north.
A few quick things to know:
Bison are officially moving into the Backcountry Wilderness Area for the first time in more than 100 years.
The herd is considered one of Colorado’s oldest conservation herds — and among the last genetically pure bison herds in the country.
There will eventually be educational programs and special UTV tours connected to the grazing area.
This feels very Highlands Ranch because ranchers always seem to acquire more animals to fill up pastures.
And it’s happening again.
The new grazing area will sit inside the Backcountry Wilderness Area — a place the community continues to invest in protecting.
Long before Highlands Ranch had neighborhoods, rec centers, and trail systems, bison helped shape these grasslands through their grazing patterns and movement. More than a century later, they’re coming back.
“Y’all” may not get used much around here, but the ranch keeps getting ranchier.
Bison are back.
